ABOUT KENRICK
I'm the guy behind 'Yarns with Rick' – just a regular bloke (most of the time) who's been through the wringer and came out the other side.
I've walked the same rocky path many men trudge on: feeling stuck, wrestling with stress, and figuring out what happiness really means.
I realized men need real-life tools to manage the chaos of life and to THRIVE.
During a rough patch in my life, my mental health and marriage was going down the drain, I was miserable. I learned that owning my happiness was key. I dived into mindfulness, nature, exercise and learned to love myself!
Here's the thing – mindfulness isn't a cookie-cutter solution. It's about finding what clicks for you. Maybe it's a walk in the bush, maybe it's going for a run, or maybe it's just breathing a bit deeper on your lunch break. These little moments? They add up, shifting how we see and tackle the world.
So, I invite you lads to join me in this journey. It's not about escaping life; it's about living it fully – with a bit more awareness, a lot more compassion, and a heap of joy.
Dad to two young kids, Husband, bit of a frother to be honest. Runs the odd Trail Ultra Marathon for fun.

No kumbaya circles here! Our retreats are designed to be approachable and grounded for normal kiwi guys. We focus on practical, real-world mindfulness and connection to self and others. It's about real guys getting together, finding some peace in nature, and learning a few things about themselves.
-
No worries if you're never tried meditation before. Your probably already doing it. When your dying for a surf after a busy day at work, or you get VERY thristy for beers when your boss is being a dick,, or ever find your pretty chill when your out fishing on the boat? That’s you doing a form of meditation, looking for calm. Using a range of 4-4-4-4 Box Breathing, Wim Hoff style Breathwork, and other grounding techniques you will find something that works for you!
-
You can keep your pants on, don’t worry. Our Sauna sessions aren’t about getting naked, but about challenging yourself and a yarn with the lads. Saunas and cold plunges offer scientifically proven benefits: Saunas can improve cardiovascular health and reduce stress hormones, while cold plunges boost immune response and enhance mental clarity by increasing endorphin levels.
-
Think of our retreat as a detox for the mind. A lot of kiwi blokes use alcohol as a escape from what’s going on… these retreats are all about digging into this hard stuff. And phones, it's all about giving yourself a break from the constant pings and scrolls. This digital detox lets you soak in the tranquility of nature and engage more deeply with the retreat's activities and conversations with others. It’s about enjoying a more grounded and present experience.
-
Yes! In 2024 we are offering a Womans retreat hosted by Kenrick and the amazing Choiwee Moon.
-
Absolutely! Kenrick has worked in alternative education and schools with hundreds of young people. Our retreats are open to men aged 16 and above, making it a great opportunity for teenage boys, especially those interested in personal growth and mindfulness. It's a chance for them to step away from daily distractions, learn valuable life skills, and connect with nature and like-minded individuals.

Self-inquiry is about exploring your own thoughts and emotions, and why you are the way you are. It’s an important practice in understanding and growing. To be all you can be. As for self-compassion, it's about treating yourself with the same kindness you'd offer a good mate. It might sound a bit out there, but these practices are about getting to know and look after yourself better.
